Pastoral care

A stay in hospital is a special time - a state of emergency. In this situation, other people are particularly important as dialogue partners.

We from the pastoral care team are happy to meet and talk to you. We ask how you are feeling and what is on your mind. We listen. We also support you and your relatives if you need counselling or have to make decisions. We respect your personal view of life and your faith.

HOW WE ARE THERE FOR YOU

The ward's nursing team will be happy to put you in touch with the chaplaincy. The pastoral care specialists also endeavour to go from room to room. However, these visits are often interrupted by unforeseen circumstances - so please do not hesitate to actively request a meeting.

A public church service is held every Sunday at 10 a.m. in the assembly hall. You can also follow this from your room, as it is broadcast on the in-house TV channel. You will find a Bible in your dessert - Room Service will be happy to bring you a songbook.

To the events

Do you feel like praying together? We are happy to pray with you on request. We can offer you a blessing, communion (Protestant and Catholic), anointing and other Christian rituals. We will be happy to provide you with more information.

The Room of Silence is located on the first floor above the entrance hall of Bethesda Hospital. From Monday to Friday, the sisters' community holds a public midday prayer here at 12.10 pm. You can write down your intentions in the prayer book. The deaconesses will include them in their prayers.

The pastoral care team regularly publishes the flyer "A word for life". You can find it free of charge in a clearly visible dispenser on your ward.

We regularly invite you to concerts in the auditorium of Bethesda Hospital. You can find the annual programme online or take it with you at one of our distribution points in the building.

Take a deep breath and relax

Every first Tuesday of the month from 4.15 - 4.45 pm, a Bethesda music project takes place in the Room of Silence at Bethesda Hospital in collaboration with professional musicians from the Basel region.

For some, the music is a way to relax after work. For others, it is a way to gather strength for recovery. For others, it is the highlight of a long day. You can come and go during the breaks between the pieces of music.
Thank you for only applauding at the end of the event.

Patients, staff and residents of the Bethesda Campus as well as interested guests are invited.

Admission free - collection at the entrance.

Pastoral care is offered to all patients at Bethesda Hospital. The counsellors are available to listen and provide support. They are not concerned with specialised medical issues relating to treatment, therapy or care, but with the patient's mental and spiritual well-being. The counsellors have no specific intentions beyond this. The meetings and discussions are open-ended.

Patients decide for themselves whether they wish to seek counselling. In crisis situations, pastoral care can be helpful in dealing with strokes of fate, mobilising one's own resources or preparing decisions. The hospital situation is also an opportunity to talk about questions of life, faith and meaning.

The counselling service is open to all patients, regardless of their world view or faith. The patient decides whether religious topics are also discussed.

Hospital pastor Stefan Weller and hospital chaplain Andreas Olbrich are Protestant (Evangelical Methodist Church). Hospital chaplain Claudia Meier is Catholic (Roman Catholic Church). They work together as a team. Chaplains from other churches or religious communities can be contacted on request.

All members of the pastoral care team are specially qualified for their role, for example through the Clinical Pastoral Training (CPT) programme. They undergo continuous further training.

Pastoral care in the hospital is free of charge. The salary of the chaplains is financed by the Bethesda Diaconate Foundation or the respective church where they are employed.

Our counsellors are subject to the statutory duty of confidentiality.

Simply inform the nursing staff of your request. They will make sure that we can get in touch with you.

Optionally, you can also call us directly - we will be happy to help you.
