Everything you need to know about your stay at Bethesda Hospital
On these pages you will find lots of valuable information about your hospital stay - from registration to discharge. We also offer you feedback opportunities to evaluate your stay with us.
Before the stay
There are various ways in which you can benefit from our medical services: One of these is that you are referred to us by your attending physician or your family doctor. However, you can also be referred to us at Bethesda Hospital via doctors or social services at another clinic.
If you have any questions, please contact the patient scheduling department directly.
A comprehensive pre-clinical assessment ensures quality - this principle also applies before an operation. In the pre-operative nursing consultation at Bethesda Hospital, the aim is to plan the inpatient stay and the time afterwards as well as possible. This service is unique in the Basel region.
This consultation is automatically scheduled after the anaesthesia consultation.
We recommend that you leave valuables, jewellery and large sums of money at home. No liability can be accepted for loss of or damage to personal belongings. A safe is available in the patient rooms in the personal cupboard. If required, there is a Basler Kantonalbank ATM between the entrance hall and the restaurant.
If you have any questions, please contact the patient scheduling department directly.
Wherever possible, the long-term medication prescribed by your doctor will not be changed during your hospitalisation. We ask you to take a sufficient quantity of your long-term medication with you in the original packaging for the expected duration of your stay.
If you have any questions, please contact the anaesthesia consultation directly.
We only have limited paid parking spaces available. We recommend travelling by public transport. Buses number 36 and 37 stop at the "Bethesda Spital" station.
In order to offer you the best possible support in all phases of your stay or treatment process, we organise a pre-operative care consultation before your stay.
We cater to your individual needs and ensure that you feel welcome and in good hands at all times. And to make it as easy as possible for you, the nursing consultation takes place directly after the anaesthesia consultation.
On the grounds of Bethesda Hospital you will also find services such as a hairdresser, kiosk, etc. Our room service staff will look after you for all non-medical services and ensure that you feel at home with us.
Perhaps it is good to confide in someone during your stay in hospital. Or are you worried about the time after your discharge? Our pastoral care and social services contacts are happy to be there for you. Please contact us free of charge and without obligation.
We hope that your stay with us is a pleasant one. We would be happy to provide you with some valuable information for your departure and the time afterwards.
Of course, we will also be happy to help you at any time after your stay.
The day of discharge will be agreed between you and your doctor.
For organisational reasons, you will be discharged between 8 and 10 a.m.
Should you require support for the time after your stay, our social services will be at your disposal free of charge and competently.
Billing for medical services
The invoice for medical services will be sent directly to your health insurance fund or insurance company.
Billing for private expenses
The invoice for private expenses (drinks, additional meals, etc.) must be paid to Room Service before you leave. We accept the following means of payment:
We want to continuously improve our offers and services. We therefore welcome your feedback if you have noticed anything. And of course we also appreciate your praise!

Titular professorship for PD Dr Christopher Böhlke - an extraordinary milestone
PD Dr Christopher Böhlke, senior physician at Bethesda Hospital's Palliative Care Centre, has been appointed titular professor by the University of Basel's Faculty of Medicine.
This honour is a significant milestone - particularly in palliative care, where professorships are rare. It is all the more remarkable that this appointment was made at a peripheral hospital.
With Prof Dr Jan Gärtner and Prof Dr Christopher Böhlke, two professors of palliative care are working at the same hospital - a unique constellation in Switzerland. Both also work together in a growing team in the Palliative Care Research Group at the Department of Clinical Research and co-operate closely with the Swiss Go Trial Group in conducting clinical trials at the University Hospital Basel.
We warmly congratulate Prof Böhlke on this special recognition of his many years of commitment to medicine, research and teaching.
