Founded over 100 years ago, Bethesda Hospital is now one of the leading clinics in north-west Switzerland. With our four thematic focus areas of pregnancy and childbirth, gynaecology, musculoskeletal system and rehabilitation, we offer patients a wide range of individual treatments based on personalised, cutting-edge medicine. Our specialists in medicine, nursing and therapy work in an interdisciplinary and patient-centred manner in accordance with our guiding principle "Focus on the individual".
Our 750 employees treat around 6,000 inpatients and 21,500 outpatients every year. In addition to our medical excellence, we are characterised by our dedicated nursing services, family atmosphere and unique location in a green oasis in the city. As a renowned Basel clinic with a private character and as an active training organisation, we also play an important role in healthcare provision in the region.
Bethesda Spital has a long-standing and successful partnership with Basel University Hospital. The partnership was consolidated in 2022 through a shareholding by Basel University Hospital in Bethesda Spital AG. Patients and employees benefit from the pooling of expertise between the two hospitals. This further development will strengthen university medicine in the Basel region in the long term. Thomas Rudin is at the helm; the Chairman of the Board of Directors is Werner Kübler from the USB.
Bethesda Hospital is certified as a "Member of the Swiss Leading Hospitals" and is open to patients of all insurance classes. In the ranking of the US news magazine "Newsweek", the hospital appears among the "World's Best Hospitals 2025" in two categories.
