Women's medicine - appreciative support for all women's diseases

Gynaecology is a core competence of Bethesda Hospital. Experienced doctors in our in-house clinics and accredited attending physicians are at your side. From consultations and personal counselling to complex treatment, we are there for you and treat your concerns attentively and with respect.

Our specialists provide you with expert support in all areas of gynaecology. Because gynaecological diseases are often very complex, we work closely with the teams in related fields. Together, we work hard for you - so you are always in the best hands with us and receive the treatment that is tailored to your condition.

«I felt that I was taken seriously and in extremely good hands right from the start.»

What makes our women's medicine special

You are in good hands with us: At Bethesda Hospital, we have been specialising in women's medicine for many years - this is one of our core areas of expertise and we offer you the best treatment in Basel and north-western Switzerland. With us you will find top-class medicine combined with the personal atmosphere that is typical of us.

Specialised in gentle procedures

Are you about to have an operation with us? We are committed to ensuring that your operation is as safe and gentle as possible. Our inpatient specialists mainly operate using buttonhole surgery (laparoscopy). This involves the use of a narrow instrument for which a tiny incision is sufficient. This means that the operation is less painful for you, you recover more quickly and can go home sooner. In addition, the blood loss is less with this gentle procedure and the scar after the operation is significantly smaller than with a traditional procedure.

Do you have any questions about this minimally invasive surgical procedure? Your gynaecologist will be happy to explain the individual steps to you in detail.

One of the lowest infection rates in Switzerland

This also gives you a good feeling: Bethesda Hospital performs excellently in a comparison of infection rates among Swiss hospitals. Thanks to the highest quality standards, we even have one of the lowest infection rates in Switzerland for operations to remove the uterus.

Your advantages at Bethesda Hospital

We provide interdisciplinary excellence in medicine, care and therapy, promote innovation and are at the cutting edge of research and technology. Personalised care in a family atmosphere, our excellent hotel facilities and the quiet location in the park support your recovery.

Clinic for Gynaecology: New Co-Head a. i. from 1 October 2022

Dr Hansjörg Huemer, Head of Gynaecology and Head of the Clinic for Women's Medicine, will be leaving Bethesda Hospital at the end of September 2022. He will take over Dr Allemann's practice in Reinach and will continue to work at Bethesda Hospital as an attending physician.

We have found an internal solution for the overall management of the Women's Medicine Clinic: Our two head physicians Dr Bernd Gerresheim, Head of Obstetrics and Prenatal Medicine, and Dr Jörg Humburg, Head of the Bladder and Pelvic Floor Centre, will take over as co-heads ad interim from 1 October 2022.

We would like to congratulate them both and thank them for taking this responsible step. We wish them much fulfilment and success in their new roles.

We wish Dr Hansjörg Huemer every success in his new role and thank him warmly for his great commitment to Bethesda Hospital.

Cinema film "HEBAMMEN - COMING TO THE WORLD" with Team Bethesda

The everyday life of midwives takes place on the threshold where new life is born and sometimes life fades away. Leila Kühni gently accompanies midwives who look after couples during pregnancy and labour. They all have a common goal: a healthy mother and a healthy child. The film gives an intimate insight into the most natural thing in human history. It still fascinates us today, on the one hand as a miracle, on the other as a high-risk medical event. Without judgement, Leila Kühni succeeds in juxtaposing different values and needs. This makes "Hebammen - Auf die Welt kommen" a great film about life.

We are proud to be part of this wonderful cinema film.
