The Bethesda Hospital Palliative Care Centre is a clinic for specialised palliative care with a performance mandate from the Canton of Basel-Stadt. This includes, among other things, a commitment to measurable, high quality and the optimal use of available resources.
We fulfil this obligation by constantly optimising our methods and therapies, continuously training our team and through our commitment to teaching and research.
We align our services with the national palliative care strategy and the care structures for specialised palliative care in Switzerland. As a member of the palliative.ch association, we support its goals and endeavours.
Professional partnerships are important to us. We not only count the University Hospital Basel, the St. Claraspital Basel, the palliative and oncospitex (SPITEX BASEL) and the churches of Basel-Stadt among our cooperation partners, but we also actively promote cooperation and dialogue between various specialised institutions and specialists to ensure that all patients benefit from optimal care.
Palliative care - meaning according to WHO
Palliative medicine/palliative care is an approach to improving the quality of life of patients and their families who are confronted with problems associated with a life-threatening illness. This is done by preventing and alleviating suffering through early recognition, careful assessment and treatment of pain and other problems of a physical, psychosocial and spiritual nature.
