With us, you put together your own birth team

With us, you have a unique choice of options for your birth in terms of location, care and support during the birth. Provided there are no health reasons to prevent it, you are free to choose whether to give birth in hospital or in a birthing centre. The important thing is that you feel safe and in good hands.

We combine the advantages of a traditional in-patient hospital with the benefits of our in-house team (clinics run by head physicians). Our patients choose before admission whether they want to be treated by our in-house team (employed doctors or midwives from the hospital) and/or by one of our affiliated doctors or midwives.

Whichever combination you choose - we look forward to being there for you.

At Bethesda Hospital, you can rest assured that all the conditions for a natural birth are met and that immediate medical assistance is available in the event of an emergency. The birth is led by a midwife on duty, with a doctor joining in during the final stages. If the birth takes longer, it is possible that several midwives will be responsible for your care one after the other. After the arrival of your baby, you will spend 2-3 days in our family ward.

In the case of a hospital birth, medical support is provided by our in-house team (Bethesda doctor) or an in-patient doctor. The birth is attended and supervised by a midwife from our in-house team or an affiliated midwife.

Whichever combination you choose - we look forward to being there for you.

An outpatient delivery is also possible at Bethesda Hospital. After the birth, there is a familiarisation phase and a comprehensive examination. Approximately 4 to 6 hours later you can go home with your newborn baby. During the postnatal period, a midwife will look after you and your baby at home.

The following conditions must be met for an outpatient birth to be possible:

  • The pregnancy must have proceeded without complications.
  • The natural birth must not cause any difficulties.
  • Both the mother and the child must be healthy after the birth.

Our in-house team (Bethesda doctor) or an in-patient doctor will provide medical support during an outpatient birth. The birth is accompanied and supervised by a midwife from our in-house team or an affiliated midwife.

Whichever combination you choose - we look forward to being there for you.

Attending midwives are trained midwives who work independently and treat and care for expectant mothers of all insurance classes on their own responsibility in hospital or at the practice. All our affiliated midwives must meet our high standards in order to be accredited and represent our values and philosophy.

If you decide to give birth with an attending midwife, she will manage the birth at Bethesda Hospital. The attending midwife will remain your main carer throughout your stay in the birthing room. In the event of any complications, she will request medical support from our in-house medical team.

Our attending midwives manage the birth on their own responsibility. Doctors are only consulted in the event of complications. With a midwife-led birth, you can rely on natural, individualised and holistic care from our experienced midwives.

House of the Nativity Bethesda

The Bethesda Birth Centre was established in 2019 as a unique birthing facility in the region. The birth centre combines the typical services of a midwife-led birth centre with the medical facilities of the nearby Bethesda Hospital maternity clinic. The birth centre thus meets the needs of more and more women who want to give birth to their child as naturally and safely as possible, continuously cared for by midwives and in a family atmosphere, but who also appreciate the proximity to the maternity clinic so that they can make use of the corresponding services if required.

To ensure that the time leading up to the birth is as relaxed as possible, our team of midwives will look after you during your pregnancy. In the course of check-ups and consultations, you will be prepared for the birth and the time afterwards. During this time, a relationship of mutual trust will develop, through which you will feel protected and supported.
