All inflammatory and degenerative rheumatic diseases as well as various pain syndromes of the musculoskeletal system with a special focus on the spine are treated in the outpatient centre of the Rheumatology and Pain Medicine Clinic.
A key competence of the Rheumatology and Pain Medicine Clinic is the inpatient treatment of acute and chronic pain syndromes of the back, joints and muscles. Another special area of expertise is the inpatient assessment of inflammatory diseases of the joints and spine.

Die Klinik für Anästhesiologie begleitet rund 5000 Patientinnen und Patienten pro Jahr vor, während und nach operativen Eingriffen. Wir bieten das gesamte Spektrum der Voll- und Teilnarkose der modernen Anästhesiologie an. Unsere Leistung für die Patientin und den Patienten ist das Resultat eines eingespielten Teamworks von Ärztinnen und Ärzten und Pflegefachpersonen.
Die Ernährungsberatung bietet ihre Dienstleistungen wie Ernährungstherapie allen Kliniken und Abteilungen im Bethesda Spital an. Die Physiotherapie ist zentraler Teil unseres Fokusbereichs «Bewegungsapparat» und gehört zu den Schlüsselqualifikationen des Bethesda Spitals. Mit viel Erfahrung und Einfühlvermögen begleitet Sie unser vielseitig ausgebildetes Team über den gesamten Behandlungsweg. Wir behandeln und beraten Sie sowohl ambulant wie auch stationär, bei Verletzungen, vor und nach Operationen sowie bei Erkrankungen des Bewegungsapparats.
Die Klinik für Psychiatrie & Psychosomatik ist ein Ambulatorium, das spezialisiert ist auf körperliche Leiden, für die keine (ausreichenden) Ursachen gefunden werden können. Wir behandeln chronische Schmerzzustände, Patientinnen und Patienten mit schweren körperlichen Leiden, die diese nicht bewältigen können (auch Krebserkrankungen). Wir sind ebenso spezialisiert auf Probleme rund um die Schwangerschaft und Geburt, traumatische Erlebnisse und Schlafstörungen.
Wir bieten Ihnen radiologische Diagnostik und minimal invasive Behandlungen auf höchstem Niveau. Unsere Motivation ist, moderne Gerätemedizin in angenehmer Umgebung und freundlicher Atmosphäre anzubieten. Wo nötig werden Therapiestrategien, rehabilitative Strategien und präventive Strategien gemeinsam mit den Spezialisten verschiedener medizinischer und paramedizinischer Fachrichtungen beurteilt und gegebenenfalls neu aufgegleist. Dabei unterstützend werden hoch entwickelte Technologien eingesetzt wie Magnetresonanztomographie, Knochendichtemessung oder Ultraschall. Wir zeigen Einfühlungsvermögen und stehen für die Mitbestimmung durch partnerschaftliche Kooperation mit dem Betroffenen.
Patientinnen und Patienten müssen zur Behandlung im Spital sein oder sind zu einem freudigen Ereignis wie der Geburt hierher gekommen. In diesen Tagen oder Wochen werden vielleicht manche Gedanken, Ängste und Hoffnungen bewegt. Manches kann in den Tagen des Spitalaufenthaltes fraglich und brüchig werden, der feste Boden unter den Füssen ins Wanken kommen. In dieser Situation sind wir gerne für Begegnungen und Gespräche bereit.
In Zusammenarbeit mit Patienten, Angehörigen, Ärzten und Pflegepersonal unterstützt der Sozialdienst bei Bedarf Lösungen für den bevorstehenden Spitalaustritt, der Nachsorge oder für Probleme im sozialen Zusammenhang zu finden. Der Sozialdienst gibt Hilfestellung bei beruflichen oder finanziellen Sorgen die den Genesungsprozess beeinträchtigen können.
Die Wirbelsäulenchirurgie ist unserem Wirbelsäulenzentrum und dem Zentrum Rücken, Rheuma, Schmerz zugeordnet. Die dabei eingebundenen belegärztlichen Wirbelsäulenchirurgen haben ihre Praxen im Spital. Schwerpunktmässig decken sie die Abklärung, Behandlung und Operation der degenerativen Erkrankungen der gesamten Wirbelsäule ab. Sie arbeiten nach den modernsten Erkenntnissen und Qualitätsanforderungen, was den Einsatz von minimal invasiven und mikrochirurgischen Techniken einschliesst.

Grosse, tragende Gelenke wie Hüft- und Kniegelenke sind mit fortschreitendem Alter anfällig für Arthrose und oft schmerzhaft betroffen. Schulterschmerzen sind ebenfalls nicht selten, meistens durch die Entzündung von Weichteilen verursacht. Auch die kleinen Zwischenwirbelgelenke der Wirbelsäule machen sich bei vielen
Menschen mit Rückenschmerzen bemerkbar, und ab dem 50. Lebensjahr sind Schmerzen im Daumen-Sattelgelenk sehr häufig.
Zum Glück nicht! Aber bei länger anhaltenden und/oder nächtlichen Schmerzen, sowie bei einer längeren morgendlichen Gelenksteifigkeit sollte unbedingt eine fachärztliche Beurteilung erfolgen. In solchen Fällen könnten Gelenkschmerzen Symptom einer systemischen Entzündungskrankheit sein, welche nebst den Gelenken auch inneren Organen schaden kann.
Am häufigsten sind solche Schmerzen durch eine Abnutzung des Gelenkknorpels (Arthrose) oder eine Entzündung der umliegenden Weichteile, z.B. von Schleimbeuteln, verursacht. Häufig, aber oft verkannt, sind auch Gelenkkapselschmerzen bei Menschen mit einer angeborenen Überstreckbarkeit der Gelenke
(Hypermotilität). Ca. 3% der Bevölkerung leidet an einer entzündlichen Ursache. Am häufigsten ist die stoffwechsel-bedingte Pseudogicht oder Chondrokalzinose, welche mit der ebenfalls häufigen Gicht «verwandt» ist. Nicht selten ist auch die Rheumatoide Arthritis, welche 1% der Bevölkerung betrifft und ohne Therapie zur Invalidität führen kann.
Leider nein. Entzündliche Gelenkerkrankungen können auch bei jungen Menschen, sogar bei Kindern auftreten. Entzündliches Rheuma bei Kindern und Jugendlichen verläuft oft aggressiv und benötig eine rasche und effektive anti-entzündliche Therapie. Es gilt: Ein dickes und/oder überwärmtes Gelenk sollte immer zeitnahe vom Facharzt untersucht werden, unabhängig vom Alter des Patienten.
Ja. Bei den stoffwechsel-bedingten Gelenkserkrankungen können grosse Gelenke wie das Schulter- oder Kniegelenk komplett zerstört werden, sodass nur noch der Einsatz einer Gelenkprothese hilft. Bei grossen tragenden Gelenken, v.a. dem Hüftgelenk, kann auch ein Infarkt des Gelenkkopfes, eine sogenannte Kopfnekrose eintreten, welche ebenfalls prothetisch versorgt werden muss.
Nein, das sollte in der heutigen Zeit nicht mehr vorkommen. Bei frühzeitiger Diagnose und Behandlung einer entzündlichen Gelenkerkrankung kann in den meisten Fällen die frühere Lebensqualität wiederhergestellt werden. Bei chronischen Rückenschmerzen setzen wir oft erfolgreich die gezielte Infiltration der kleinen Wirbelgelenke unter Röntgenkontrolle ein, gefolgt von Physiotherapie. Auch in Sachen Gelenkprothetik wurden in den letzten 20 Jahren nochmals grosse Fortschritte erzielt. So kommt es oft vor, dass Patienten, welche sich jahrelang mit schwerer Hüftarthrose und starken Schmerzen geplagt haben, innerhalb kürzester Zeit nach Einsatz einer Hüftprothese wieder schmerzfrei gehen können.
Die Diagnose einer entzündlichen Gelenk- oder Weichteilerkrankung stellen wir in unserer ambulanten Arthritis-Sprechstunde in der Regel am gleichen Tag. Nebst der klinischen Untersuchung und dem Labor stehen uns hierfür hoch-sensitive Ultraschallgeräte zur Verfügung, mit welchen wir die Gelenke und auch Entzündungsvorgänge millimeter-genau einsehen können. Die Einteilung einer entzündlichen Erkrankung benötigt manchmal etwas länger, da wir Laborresultate abwarten müssen. In der Regel stellen wir die Diagnose aber innerhalb von 2-4 Wochen, und die Therapie beginnen wir in den meisten Fällen bereits am Tag der Erstkonsultation.
Wir besprechen dann sämtliche relevanten Befunde mit den Patienten. Nach gemeinsamer Wahl der Therapie, klären wir den Patienten über die Risiken auf, sowie die notwenigen Nachkontrollen. Insbesondere bei Weichteilund Arthrose-Schmerzen besprechen wir auch die physiotherapeutischen und physikalischen Möglichkeiten. Physiotherapie und beispielsweise Wärmeapplikation oder Wassertherapie, nehmen hier eine sehr wichtige Stellung ein, und wir sprechen diese Behandlung und den Therapieverlauf deshalb auch mit unseren Physiotherapeuten ab. Findet sich eine schwere Arthrose also Schmerzursache, z.B. des Knies, dann nutzen wir das interdisziplinäre Angebot im Hause und weisen den Patienten auf Wunsch der Orthopädie Klinik am Bethesda Spital zu.
